Back to the Well (Week 1)
01.30.04 (11:09 pm) [edit]
Well here we go again. For some of you, this will be an introduction, for some of you, this will be the third time around. I am, as the Blog thingie says, The Frenchie - a nickname I have no personal interest in but you know how things stick.
A third time you say? Well, yes - just the first time in BLOG form. About a year ago, one of my rather bored friends devised a plan to make a website based around college life. This website would be complete with columnists, reviewers and other wonderful sections and we dubbed it ANECS (don't ask me what it stands for - it's a butcher of annex I figure.)
The first time around started up in March with me as the web designer but we got a little too ambitious and like Icarus, we flew too close to the sun, melting our wings of HTML and Java. The site again re-opened during the summer of 2003 and with a new work ethic but soon it felt like a chore, writing columns and reviews. We tried to remedy this but in the end, none of us had the desire or the drive to keep the site updated and fresh. We've discontinued our web service and ANECS 2.0 is closing down soon for good.
Orion (a.k.a. Glen Hilton) blames himself, while I take the approach that we all need to take the blame equally in this project. So don't feel so bad, bucko! Because you brought up the idea of a journal which spawned this idea here.
The early beginnings of ANECS felt "blogish" to me and I felt we should strive against that - now ironically the only shreds of ANECS that still exist are in Glen's journal and this BLOG. This "BLOG" (who ever came up with that term and how the hell did it get in my dictionary) will follow the ANECS formula - that being a column and a short review of something once a week. Without the hassle of actually maintaining a webpage, I think this can be done but if I end up slacking again, please email me and smack some sense into me. Topics are going to be anything but mostly about fantasy, comics, movies and other nerdly things as well as issues that I think need to be addressed at the time I address them.
To thank my ANECS crew, the run was fun - the Euchre games that resulted from our "company meetings" were even better. You guys are the greatest. You know, honestly, I don't have too many friends and I really appriecate you guys being there. Due to some recent revelations of late (which you either know what I'm referring to or you shouldn't know) things may never be the same again between all of us. And I think to tear that down is my only wish in life right now. I wish for things to go back to the way they were back when we first were going to LLCC. It seemed a much brighter time and we were all so much closer. Now "The Revelation", distance (ableit only an hour and a half at most) and other "priorities" (sorry to the ladies I'm referring to) have changed everything. Maybe I should be calling this BLOG "A Brave New World" after Huxley's novel and not by the Thornton Wilder stage play because things really do feel different.
Orion, I mean Glen - your great to be around and while I don't share your love for beer and ale, I hope we reach grounds on fiction, technology and someday Halo (if I ever cave in and buy an X-Box.) Hot Shit may never ride again but hopefully our tandem, whatever name we'd ever decide on, will actually win a round of pool someday. Hopefully, I can pass some ideas by you someday as I'm finally starting to piece together my Tolkienesque world in my head and on maps. I appriecate you just being there sometimes even with my attitude.
Luck, hopefully with you moving up to the Normington area we don't lose touch. Women, what good are they? (Can't live with them and they can't pee standing up) Well looks like you and I have found our signifigant others. Good luck with Natty and the whole moving in together, whenever it may happen. Thanks for all you've done and for putting up with my shit. Hopefully, this new chapter in our lives won't be the end of things.
Mike, Tha Rain. Honestly, I think we're all slightly dissapointed but well you've already seen my email - I don't hold it against you. You've always been entertainment and someone to talk to. One day, Tommy Dreamer will win the big one. Right after he de-ages 10 years, gets a back transplant and Vince sells the WWE to someone else. Sorry.
To Glen, Matt and Mike together, thanks. No other words can really say it (especially while trying not to sound gay about it.) You've been better to me than I really deserve and for that, you each have my absolute loyality for life. Here's to Those Days and here's to the future. Let's hope it'll be bright and that we can all stay in each other's lives. As much as I hate the inter-net, I have to settle for it I suppose. Technology, isn't it great?
Leach, I don't talk to you much any more but it'd be wrong not to mention you if you ever did read this. You've been the butt-end of some jokes before but High School wouldn't have been the same without you.
Bonnee, I don't talk to you much either but as a fellow ANECS member, I thank you for talking up the charge when Leach left - ok, he never started so technically, he never left. You were the only one of us that was ever truly dedicated to writing.
Natty, keep Matt out of trouble alright? Thanks for being a friend to Amanda. That helped ease her in to my circle of friends. I appriecate it tremendously.
To Amanda, in all honesty, it's only been a short time but I really, truly do love you. More than life itself, if that's possible. I'll spare everyone else that "you are the yin to my yang" speel. You've accepted me for who I am and as much as that scared me at first, I'm no longer scared.
To any ANECS supporters, thanks a bunch.
To anyone new or jumping aboard, enjoy and hopefully I can entertain you. I always love getting email (sans virus please) so drop me a line, dynamitehack91@yahoo.com.
Well, here goes nothing folks. I won't let you down.
